DALLAS – Dallas attorney and State Senator Royce West is calling on the Dallas County Commissioners’ Court to change the tone surrounding the constable investigation and allow justice to be served.
“Whatever our individual concerns or our political differences, voters rightfully expect us to put them aside and do our jobs as public servants. Moreover, they expect us to give each other the support and respect needed to do our jobs,” West said.
Though the Commissioners’ Court has no jurisdiction in Dallas County civil or criminal litigation, the court has insisted on interfering with the constable investigation.
“Unfortunately, over the last several months, some members of our Commissioners’ Court have neglected the job they were elected to do and have been trying to do our District Attorney's work instead. None of these commissioners have the authority, expertise, experience or success as prosecutors,” West said.
In an effort to change the tone and aid the Commissioners’ Court in re-focusing on the job that Dallas County residents have elected them to do, West announced he hopes to help move the commissioners in the right direction to ensure justice is served.
“The County Judge and his Republican allies on the Commissioners’ Court are making incorrect and irresponsible claims that my service as Constable Derek Evans' civil lawyer is a conflict of interest in the criminal constable investigation. Their claim is absolutely false. The ongoing investigation is a criminal matter, and I am not his criminal lawyer. To head off this cynical effort to confuse the public and, perhaps more importantly, to change the destructive tone surrounding this entire matter, I am withdrawing my representation as Constable Derek Evans’ civil lawyer,” West said.
Senator West calls on the Commissioners’ Court to put aside political partisanship and do what is right for the residents of Dallas County.
